Ever wish you could go inside your favorite book and become one of the characters? Of course you have. Everyone has. That’s why there are a thousand books and even more movies about it. But if you ever actually manage to pull it off, here’s a tip…timing is everything.
Take Holly, for example. She says the spell, and it brings her to Lucitopia, and she becomes Princess Pleasant exactly as she wished. But she gets there after Asphodel the Evil Sorcerer has won the war between good and evil and Lucitopia has become a stinky, ugly, tetanus-riddled hellhole. If Holly doesn’t get out in fifteen days, she’ll be stuck there for the rest of her life, which probably won’t be much longer considering she’s overdue for her shots.
The only way Holly can break the spell is if a real boy falls in love with her character and kisses her. The likelihood of that happening is slim to none, seeing as how everyone stops reading the stupid book as soon as the hero, Sir Torvold the Bold, dies when he faces Asphodel. Holly’s last hope is to get Princess Pleasant into the story before Torvold dies his thoroughly unsatisfying death and do something so amazing a real boy would kiss her.
Falling madly in love with the blazing hot, brave, funny, and kind Torvold along the way probably won’t win a real boy’s heart, so she definitely can’t do that.
But who’d be dumb enough to fall in love with a character in a book?
---That’s the official plug for LUCITOPIA, which comes out tomorrow, and I am far more excited about this than I should be. It’s a free-bee, a light romp, a jolly escapade. Nothing to get all worked up about. But I LOVE this story and I LOVE this world and I can’t wait to hear what you all think of it. The tone is a little different for me, which was a relief because I was getting a little tired of me. It was so much fun to write.
Just between us, I wrote it while I was supposed to be writing something else that was so complicated and heavy I got brain fry and needed a break. LUCITOPIA is where my brain goes on vacation. So of course there’s a hot guy or two in it!
ALSO, I finally joined Instagram! You know, because I’m always at the cutting edge of technology. Please follow me as I fumble through and make an ass of myself by taking accidental pictures of my Crocs-clad feet and posting them at Josephine_Angelini.
