About Blurbs

March 6, 2011

For those of you who don’t know what a blurb is, it’s the quote on the jacket of a book that says things like “Astounding… so-and-so has really delivered!” or “At the end, I just had to call my mother and tell her I love her!” And so forth.

Blurbs are usually written by well-known authors who have best selling books, and they are usually written for either less-well-known or entirely unknown authors who are trying to break out.

Authors like me.

Blurbs are a big deal, and they can attract a lot of readers to a book. Personally, I know that I’m more willing to buy a book if one of my favorite authors gave it a great blurb.

If it’s an author I really love, I don’t even have to read the summary on the back. I just buy it and dig in. When you think about it, every blurb is really a huge act of generosity.

That’s why I’m so grateful to Kiersten White, Sophie Jordan, and Lauren Kate. Without ever having met me, these three amazing writers went out on a limb and recommended my book to the world.

I can’t thank them enough.
